Original Eagle Street Theatre Occupied the location where the Iroquois Hotel now stands. Erected in 1835 and was the first regular theatre. It burned in 1852 and when rebuilt was called the New Eagle Street Theatre. Later the name was changed to St. James Hall and then Brunell's Museum.

[Transcriber's note: This article was inserted into Old Buffalo 1832 but no indication was given as to where the article originated.] Number 20 in the Historical Series THRU THE YEARS WITH BUFFALO Catholicism received it first impetus in Buffalo from Louis Le Couteulx, who entertained the priests who visited this distrct, and who in 1839 gave a tract of land on Main and Edward to the church. The first Catholic Church had already been built on the site, a log structure; and this had been replaced by a frame building in 1832, known as St. Louis Church; this church burned in 1885 and was rebuilt of stone. When the diocese of Buffalo was established in 1847, the Very Reverend John Timon was appointed Bishop; after traveling abroad for the solicitation of funds, a Cathedral was constructed, dedicated in July 1855.
