| Saxon church orders. The latter specifically mentions how the Saxon church orders establish the duties of church fathers.
On page 38, paragraph f it also states, "If the church has some wood, the church fathers shall not be permitted to cut it or sell it without the permission of the pastors and superintendents." Pastor Müller of Freystadt asked for information concerning this. There is our response: 1.) This is used as an example and it is not binding law derived from the old Saxon church order; it merely serves to prove that church fathers do not have full authority in the Lutheran church. 2.) Here we are not discussing pastors, law and interdiction but rather how the word permission is used in the old church orders with regard to Christian counsel and cognisance. Also we are not discussing each tree in the forest but rather permission to cut or sell wood. An individual turns from evil and does good: he seeks peace and pursues it, for the eyes of the Lord look for the righteous man and His ears search out his prayers; but the countenance of the Lord also sees the evil, which men do. 1 Peter 3. Continue, beloved brothers, to pray for us, that the word of the Lord may flow and be valued as it is with us and that we will be delivered from evil and deceitful men, for faith is not everyone's goal. However the Lord is true and He will fortify us and save us from wickedness. _____ End of the Synodal Letter _____ |
